Scary Beautiful Shoes

These shoes outshine every high heel in the world. Now...aren't they BEAUTIFUL???!!!

Read on to learn what these pair of deadly high heels are about.

~ Mary ~

These "shoes" are the product of a collaboration between South African artist Leanie van der Vyver and Dutch shoe designer René van den Berg. The "shoes" are by no means a product that will be seen on the runway for the upcoming fashion shows. How terrible would that be! No, these "shoes" are meant to be seen as a piece of meaningful art. They have a message to convey to those who follow today's "insane" beauty ideals.

The Artist

"Leanie van der Vyver graduated with a Bachelors of Design (Cum Laude) from
the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 2012."

This is basically all you get from the website. We seem to know no more from the artist than this.
And yet the whole world is impressed and at the same time shocked by her work.

These "shoes" really do their name justice. I would prefer to call them "stilts"
Basically what we have here is one massive vertical heel that is incorporated in some sort of leather cup for you to stick your foot in. It reminds you of a ballet shoe. Only that no ballet dancer would dare to dance in those. Since a normal human being wouldn't be able to walk with their feet vertically against to the floor, there is a "second heel" that serves as a front column to support your leg.
To add to that really ugly construction, the artist went with a pale mustard yellow
With a closer look you can see the little straps on the sides which are supposed to have your feet securely placed. Although you won't be feeling secure at all once you step into these heels.

The Message

Obviously these shoes are not meant to look beautiful on someone. These "shoes" are meant to give out a warning to the fashion world

Look around you, nowadays there are so many crazy beauty ideals in the world. Let me name some: anorexic models on the runway (luckily this trend is being slowly elimanted from the catwalk, and still there is a long way to go...), "tanning bed victims" who think that artificial tanning is sexy and not dangerous at all, plastic beauties who try to perfect their features with numerous health- and even life-threatening surgeries and the list goes on and on.

But we don't even have to look at those extreme cases to recognize the dangers of today's beauty image. There are things that seem so common, so ordinary at first sight and yet they can end with fatal consequences. Something like high heels. That topic couldn't be better portrayed than in Leanie van der Vyver's masterpiece.

High heels are said to be one of a girl's best friends (besides diamonds of course). They are an essential piece in a girl's wardrobe. They look cute, they make you look taller, they slim down your figure, they give every outfit a sexy touch - what more do you want in a fashion item? This is why some girls are obsessed with sky high killer heels. But many of them don't know the consequences of wearing these heels all day long, all week long, all year long...until they notice that things start to get difficult. At age they will have back problems, ankle injuries, joint pain in knees, legs and feet etc. etc. etc. It would take a whole blog to name and explain all the consequences of excessive high heel wearing

With that example I think I have proven to you that Leanie van der Vyver's "Scary Beauftiful shoes" bare a strong message. You could see it as a shout-out to the fashion creators to be more aware of what they promote to the world and at the same time a shout-out to the fashion admirers to not go beyond reasonable level while pursuing existing fashion trends.

Scary Beautiful in Action

In order to walk (if at all) in those monster heels you have to keep your knees bent and try to make your way forward in very slow and little steps. In the following video you can see how a model tries walking with the "Scary Beautiful shoes" on. Seeing that will leave you with an awkward discomfort. You will feel pity for the model. No matter how hard she tries to look confident while wearing these "shoes", her distressed clothes, the confused look on her face and her insecure movements show how painful these shoes really are.

With that all being said and shown, I hope you guys take care of your bodies and mind the saying:
You only LOOK good as long as you FEEL good!
