[Food] Les macarons de Ladurée

macaron selection from LaDurée

Hey guys, have you ever heard of macarons? It's the latest trend in the sweets industry. Puffy, sweet and colorful - meant to lighten up one's mood just by looking at them!

~ Hel ~
The taste and consistancy is rather difficult to describe. But I will give my best for you guys out there who haven't been able to taste them yet:

ingredients: They are normally made out of icing/granulated sugar and egg whites. These are the main magic ingredients I would say.

appearance: At first sight they may look like mini colorful burgers, but they do not at all taste like burgers.

consistancy: If you take a bite you'll notice how soft they are. So soft that they'll tend to fall apart in your hands. All that holds the two buiscits together is usually a cream or a jam sandwiched between them.

flavors: The number of flavors is endless! Ladurée offers a wide variety of flavors from traditional chocolate to exotics like rose.

Unfortunately for now macarons are considered a high-end product which is why you wouldn't be able to find them in just any common bakery. However they are pretty well represented in London or Paris.

When we were in London we went to a luxury cake and pastry shop called Les Maison Ladurée. They are known as the inventor of macarons and are the best of their kind.
If you get the chance to go to London you should check out this place for high-end cakes and pastries. Having a wonderful afternoon tea at the tea room is also possible. But note the place is pretty occupied. I have seen so many people waiting at the entrance to get seated. So I would recommend to try to  reserve a table beforehand. In general afternoon tea starts at 3.30pm and finishes at 6.00pm.
Ladureé is directly located next to Harrods at Brompton Road in Knightsbridge. The interior of Ladureé is overly stunning and inspiring. With all the sweets and the cute interior somehow I felt like I'm being in a fairy tale. No matter where you look at everything is kept in an heavenly pastel-tone. Even the entrance looked like a castle's gate. And behind the bar there were shelves full of pretty packaging and pyramids of macarons. Furthermore the staff was really friendly. Since Mary couldn't decide on which flavor to choose for her selection box the staff member kindly helped out by recommending the most popular flavors to her.

Well, each of us got a box of 6 mini macaron creations for a price of £12. We had the privilege to choose between three boxes (black, violet and green) but ended up with the black one which has gold engraving on it. As for my macaron selection I´ve decided to buy peppermint, rose, pistachio, vanille, mocha and chocolate. My favorite was the rose flavored one!

Macarons are to die for - definitely try some!
